The charge escalates to aggravated robbery under Utah Code 76-6-302 when a dangerous weapon is used or threatened, serious bodily injury occurs, or the defendant takes or attempts to take an operable motor vehicle. Aggravated robbery is a first-degree felony with a sentencing range of five years to life. Utah’s definition of “dangerous weapon” is broad: under Utah Code 76-1-101.5, even representing that you have a weapon can trigger aggravated robbery charges.
